Quick Summary:
1. From Finance to Design: The Career Shift
Started at the University of Waterloo in Accounting & Finance but realized it wasn’t the right fit.
I developed an interest in product design by watching my friends in computer engineering work on side projects and attending hackathons.
I eventually self-taught UX design through online resources and personal projects.
2. Breaking Into UX Design
When I began learning design, my goal was to improve my business skills. However, I soon realized I had it backward. I needed to become a designer first and leverage business to strengthen my design approach.
That’s why I initially focused on research and problem-solving as essential tools for entrepreneurship and startups.
3. Overcoming Imposter Syndrome in Design
I felt overwhelmed and unprepared when faced with complex problems during my early internships. Over time, I learned that designers aren’t hired to have all the answers immediately but to navigate a process to find them.
I realized that success comes from breaking down problems and applying a structured design process.
Now, I lead product and design at a startup, applying those same problem-solving skills every day.
